Trip Summary:

Mustang instantly become very popular trekking region as soon as it opened for Tourist in late 80s.Mustang has been described as “desert in the mountain" The trek to this region is a very rewarding one for those who want to experience the hospitality of the people living in this remote region. Mustang is a restricted zone and Department of immigration issued only a small number of special permit since 1991. This is a perfect destination where ample scope is offered for visiting Buddhists monasteries. This semi autonomous and heavily Tibetan influenced region was “described by Tilman as fascinatingly ugly country, the more fascinating for being so little known" indeed, the trek to LO Manthang is through an almost treeless barren landscape, a steep rocky trail up and down hill, panoramic view of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several others peaks make your trek memorable. A liaison officer is needed for this trek. This trek begins from Jomsom - accessible by air, Pokhara - accessible by road or Besisahar - accessible by road (If starting from Besisahar includes Annapurna circuit too).

Trip Summary:

An outstanding trek in the isolated area of west Nepal where trek can also be done even in the mid monsoon as it lies in the rain shadow area formed by the Dhaulagiri & Annapurna ranges. The trek begins at the STOL airstrip of Juphal after a short flight from the terrain town of Nepalgunj which is well connected by both road and air from Kathmandu. Trekking in the Dolpo region has its own charm, people here still leads a primitive life, yet they are friendly. This is also one of few areas where pre-Buddhist Bon Po religion is still practiced. The trail goes over three high passes, the Kagmara La [5115m], Baga La [5090m] and Numa La [5360m] passing the deep-blue tranquil Phoksumdo Lake and finally concludes at Juphal descending the gorge-side path of Tarap Khola. A physically fit person can do this trip anytime in April to October. November can be a bit risky as the pass is covered by the snow.
