BHOTEKOSI RAFTING (UPPER)
Grade: 4-5
Bhotekosi is just three hours drive from Kathmandu near the Tibetan border; this is definitely Nepal's wildest short rafting trip. If you have limited time, or just the desire for an adrenaline overload, this is the river for you.We head up towards the Tibetan border to raft two days of continuous whitewater on the main tributary of the Sunkosi. Smooth cliffs squeeze the luminous blue water between giant boulder gardens. Hard-Rock strata choke the narrow riverbed, forcing the flow down a convoluted maze of threadlike plunging passageways. Dodging down intricate routes, our rafts thrust through, often with only inches to spare in the constricted chutes. The raft bucks wildly through the foaming fury, accompanied by shrieks of approval from the crew. There's also time to explore village around. A trip down the Bhotekosi can prove to be the weekend of a lifetime.
THE SETI RIVER:
Grade: 3
This involves three days of fun rapids and relaxation through the exotic scenery of the Seti Khola. A wilderness experience ideal for those seeking an introduction to rafting or kayaking. The Seti is one of Nepals' most beautiful and warmest rivers with spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife and rapids increasing in excitement as your confidence grows. The Chitwan National Park is only one and half hours drive from the "take out" point.
THE SUNKOSI RIVER:
Grade: 3-4
The Sunkosi means "River of Gold" due to the color of the sun setting on the water, is one of the finest rivers available for rafting in the world. It drains the snow melt from the Langtang and Phubichyachu Himal bordering Tibet and beyond, largely through the Bhote Koshi, then flowing on into India to meet The Ganges. Rapids encountered are between grade 3-5 . From the "put in" at Dolalghat to the "takeout " at Chatra, near Dharan 270km away in the eastern Nepal, the river descends 500mtrs. Throughout the journey you are so remote as it takes a two day walk out from the river to the nearest road. Only small isolated villages are encountered en-route, so it is necessary to take all food and equipment to be fully self sufficient- a true expedition. To break up the return journey from Chatra we have an overnight stay at our eclusive permanent tented camp located just outside the Royal Chitwn National Park boundary. It is quiet and comfortable with hot showers too! The final day brings you back to Kathmandu.
THE TRISULI RIVER
Grade: 2
The Trisuli, draining the snowmelt of the Ganesh and Langtang Himals, gains its name from Lord Shivas' three pointed weapon-Trident or Trisul. Legend has it say that the God drove the tips of Trisul in the ground creating three small lakes that formed the headwaters of the river. There are 10 major rapids on the Trisuli starting with Beginners Luck ands ending with the Rocky and technical "Pin Ball" under the bridge of Mugling. The emphasis is on fun and safety. Three or four days of exciting paddling and plunging through exhilarating rapids. For those short in time it is a great trip in the close proximity of Kathmandu.
THE KALI GANDAKI:
Grade: 3
The Kali Gandaki package involves 3 days on the river that cuts through the world's deepest gorge. Nepal's newest and wildest river situated 3 hours drive from Pokhara is one of the world's deepest and most impressive canyons. From day one we put you in at Baglung-the rapid run thick and fast here. We are rewarded with unique views of the Annapurna range, beautiful deserted beach camps, charming villages and a visit to an eerie, derelict palace. One five-day itinerary starting from Kathmandu and ending at Kathmandu can be shortened to 3 days Pokhara to Pokhara trip to fit in with any trekking plans you may be planning around the Annapurna Region.
