BUDDHIST HERITAGE TRIP

 

This tour is especially made to highlight the major Buddhist heritage sites of Nepal. For those who are curious about Buddhism, this tour is made to provide them the opportunity to get to know the details about Buddhism and its culture. It takes you to the major Buddhist pilgrimages in the valley and to the birth place of Lord Buddha to Lumbini. In the valley you will visit Swyambhunath, Boudhanath listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO and Lumbini (birth place of Lord Buddha) out of the valley. During the trip, visitors can see the Buddhist devotees chanting religious hymns in their religious attire totally devoted to Buddhism. Lumbini is known as the birth place of Lord Buddha “The Light of Asia.”. The nativity site is marked by a stone pillar erected by Indian Emperor Ashoka in 249 BC to commemorate his pilgrimage to the sacred spot.

Tour begins with warm traditional welcome and quick safety briefing followed by comprehensive trip briefing next day, introduction to your guide and entertain last minutes questions.

Arrival in Kathmandu where you will be met and transferred to Hotel just walking distance to any styles of good restaurants and shops. After breakfast, you will visit Bouddha also known as The Little Tibet is a 2500-year old Buddhist Stupa, - a holy place and center of Tibetan Buddhism. Then, you'll visit Patan City where you can see the historic Durbar Square, The Golden Gate, The Sky piercing temple of Taleju and the statue of King Yogendra Malla. You’ll have your lunch here in Patan. O/N at Hotel in Kathmandu (BB)

After breakfast drive to Namobuddha which will take approx. 3hrs of drive. Namobuddha is an amazing story concerned with the Buddha which is commemorated by an ancient stone slab and a Stupa with the all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. After Lunch, you’ll hike to the top and later drive back to Kathmandu. O/N at Hotel in Kathmandu (BB)
After breakfast, you’ll drive to Lumbini which overland transportation to Lumbini. Lumbini is the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the apostle of peace, compassion and non-violence. It is situated in Kapilvastu District of Lumbini Zone, the western Terai of Nepal, 250 Km. south west of Kathmandu. Arrive in Lumbini and check into hotel. Rest of the day visit Buddhist Pilgrimage sites of Lumbini. O/N at Hotel in Lumbini (BB)

We did not have one drop of rain during our 10 days in lower Mustang and the organisation was great even if prepared only one day before! I was very grateful to Basanta Adventures, six years ago, for arranging my first visit to Nepal, the trek from Lukla to Chukhung and my climb of Island Peak….the company was superb in every way. So it was with total confidence that I asked them to help me put together a much longer and more varied trip for 2016.

What resulted was a totally bespoke trekking and climbing package for ‘two old gits’ that was not just substantially cheaper than the usual UK company offerings but was delivered with more professionalism, safety awareness and customer consideration than anything we had received from larger companies. Oh – and Gyalzen Sherpa brings another dimension with his cultural insights and explanations of living in the Khumbu region.

Highlights of our four week expedition? The 4WD journey from Kathmandu to where the road(?) ends and we start walking….the week we spent travelling through the foothills and learning about non-commercial life where few trekkers visit since the airport at Lukla opened….crossing all three major passes (17,000’+) made much easier by Basanta’s carefull preparation and acclimatisation…the blue of Gokyo Lakes……Everest, of course – but Ama Dhablam is more beautiful…..the Khumbu Icefall…the views from the three 18,000’+ peaks we climbed….Island Peak summit…….but above all these natural wonders is the highlight of meeting so many fantastic people and learning so much from them.

In summary, I’ve been lucky enough to have travelled to many places around the world and with many companies….if you can, you MUST go to Nepal and if you do, you cannot do better than let Basanta Adventures arrange your trip.
