Nagarjun Jamacho Cycling Tour Overview
The Bicycling Tour to Nagarjun or Jamacho is a full-day mountain biking adventure on the northwestern side of Kathmandu Valley. Starting from Kathmandu, the route heads towards Balaju and Goldhunga before entering the Nagarjun section of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. Busy streets gradually give way to quieter roads, forest, and a long uphill ride towards Jamacho.
The main objective is Jamacho at approximately 2,128m. The sustained climb is the most physically demanding section of the journey, requiring steady pedaling and good use of the bike’s gears. After reaching the top, riders can rest around Jamacho Gumba and enjoy views across Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan skyline when conditions are clear.
The return is considerably more energetic. After retracing part of the climbing route, the ride turns into deeper forest trails with loose surfaces, natural corners, and sections of singletrack before continuing towards Mudkhu. The standard tour allows approximately five to six hours of cycling, while the exact distance can vary according to the starting point, trail conditions, and return route.
September to May generally provides the best conditions for the Nagarjun cycling tour, with October to November and March to April particularly suitable for dry trails and pleasant temperatures. The route enters Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, so a park entry ticket and applicable bicycle access arrangements are required. TIMS, ACAP, and other trekking permits are not necessary for this cycling tour.
