Overview of EBC Trek
The Everest Base Camp Trek is a journey into the heart of the Khumbu, home to the world’s highest mountain. The journey takes you through the Sherpa homeland to the base of Mount Everest and to the summit of Kala Patthar at 5,545 m (18,192 ft), surrounded by legendary peaks including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Pumori.
At Basanta Adventure, we have been running treks in Nepal for over 25 years, and plan each trek around sensible pacing and proper acclimatisation, small comforts where they count, and guides who look after you personally and know the valley well.
The trek begins with an early flight to Lukla, landing on a short mountainside runway that is an adventure in itself. From there, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing high suspension bridges and climbing through pine and rhododendron forest into Sagarmatha National Park.
You will pass through lively Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital, and the peaceful monastery of Tengboche, before walking beside the great Khumbu Glacier to Everest Base Camp. The climb to Kala Patthar rewards you with sweeping views of Everest and the surrounding giants.
Along the way, we encourage you to experience Nepal beyond the trail. Eat dal bhat (rice, lentils, and seasonal curry), the everyday meal that keeps most of Nepal going. Stop for tea in family-run lodges, walk past mani walls and prayer flags, and learn from your guide how Sherpa families have lived and worked in these mountains for generations.
These simple encounters often become some of the most memorable moments of the journey, and many of our guests tell us these quieter moments stayed with them longer than the views. Our established local team carefully manages the itinerary, logistics, accommodation, safety, and pacing, while giving you time to enjoy the journey at your own rhythm.
We work with local lodges and staff, and care about leaving the trail and the communities along it in good shape. Our aim is not simply to take you to Everest Base Camp, but to create an immersive, meaningful, and transformational journey of a lifetime.

Stand at the Foot of Everest with Basanta Adventure
Few trails in the world carry the weight of the Everest Base Camp Trek. You will fly into Lukla, cross swaying suspension bridges high above glacial rivers, and climb through Sherpa villages, monasteries and pastures to the edge of the Khumbu Glacier at 5,364 metres. Then comes Kala Patthar at 5,545 metres, where Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse rise in front of you. It is a trek you feel long before you finish it.
We plan every Everest trek around the idea that the trail is only part of the story. Your itinerary gives you time to acclimatise properly, share tea in family-run lodges, listen to the stories behind the prayer flags and monasteries, and take in the mountains without rushing. The Khumbu is a living home, and we want you to know it as one.
For over 25 years, we have been guiding trekkers through the Himalaya, and that experience shows in the details. Our local guides know these valleys and the people who live in them. Our team handles the logistics, from flights and lodges to permits, safety, and daily pacing, so your energy goes into the climb and the views.
We believe in travelling responsibly. That means supporting local communities, respecting Sherpa culture and traditions, and helping keep the Everest region as beautiful as we found it.
Our goal is not only to get you to Everest Base Camp. We want you to leave with a story you will still be telling years from now.
Walk the Khumbu, meet the Sherpa people, take home more than a summit photo.

Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding 2610m/8560ft, 3-4 hrs, 8 km;
Today, we will take an early morning flight to Lukla (2,845 m), the official gateway to the Khumbu region. The flight is about 30 to 40 minutes long, offering scenic views of lush greenery, mountain valleys, and even distant Mt Everest views on a clear day.
From Lukla, we will start the trekking part of the journey and move towards Phakding, a small Sherpa village. Along the way, we will traverse Dudh Koshi valley, passing mani walls, chortens, prayer flags, and local settlements such as Chheplung, Thadokoshi, and Ghat.
The teahouses and lodges in the lower regions offer twin-sharing rooms, warm meals, and comfortable beds. Today’s short and relaxed hike allows our bodies to gradually adjust to the increasing altitude and elevation.
Day 4Trek to Namche 3440m/11283ft, 5-6 hrs, 10 - 12 km
Namche Bazaar+
Trek to Namche 3440m/11283ft, 5-6 hrs, 10 - 12 km
From Phakding, we will gently climb through pine and rhododendron forest, crossing suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. We will arrive at Monjo, the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park, where our permits will be checked before we continue towards Jorsale for Lunch.
Leaving Jorsale, the trail becomes steeper as you make the final climb to Namche Bazaar. If the weather is clear, you'll be welcomed by mighty Everest and will get your first glimpse of Mount Everest along with Lhotse and Nuptse from one of the viewpoints before reaching town.
After a steady 800 m climb from the final suspension bridge, we will arrive at Namche Bazaar, the heart of the Khumbu region and the main gateway to the EBC.
Day 5Acclimatization day at Namche:
Namche Bazaar+
Acclimatization day at Namche:
Today, we will spend a day in Namche for acclimatization. It is a crucial part of the Everest Base Camp Trek to help adjust our bodies to the higher elevation. We will explore Namche village and take an optional hike to the Everest View Hotel, Thyangboche, and nearby viewpoints.
After returning to Namche, you'll have time to explore this lively Sherpa town at your own pace. Trekkers can visit the Sherpa Culture Museum, browse local shops for trekking gear and handmade crafts, or relax at one of the famous Himalayan bakeries.
An acclimatisation day in Namche greatly improves your chances of a safe and enjoyable ascent while offering a deeper insight into the culture and lifestyle of the Khumbu region.

Deboche+
Trek from Namche to Deboche, Elevation: 3,820m/12,532 ft, Distance: 10 - 11 km, Duration: 5 - 6 hours
Leaving Namche behind, the trail follows a scenic ridge with magnificent views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. After descending to the riverside settlement of Phunki Tenga, you'll cross the Imja Khola before beginning a steady uphill climb through rhododendron and fir forests to Tengboche, home to the region's largest and most significant Buddhist monastery.
Take time to visit Tengboche Monastery, where monks gather for daily prayers against a breathtaking Himalayan backdrop. After exploring the monastery, continue with a gentle descent through peaceful woodland to the quieter village of Deboche.
Surrounded by tall trees and mountain scenery, Deboche offers a more tranquil overnight stop than Tengboche while keeping you close to tomorrow's route toward the upper Khumbu Valley.
Day 7Trek from Deboche to Dingboche, Elevation: 4,410m (14,470 ft), Distance: 10 to 11 km (6.2 - 6.8 miles), Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trek from Deboche to Dingboche, Elevation: 4,410m (14,470 ft), Distance: 10 to 11 km (6.2 - 6.8 miles), Duration: 5 to 6 hours
The trail descends briefly to cross the Imja Khola before reaching Pangboche, one of the oldest Sherpa settlements in the Everest region. Surrounded by stone walls, traditional homes, and ancient Buddhist heritage, the village provides a wonderful opportunity to experience local mountain life.
As you continue higher, dense forests gradually give way to alpine meadows, while the towering peak of Ama Dablam dominates the skyline.
After passing through the villages of Shomare and Orsho, the landscape becomes more open and rugged as you enter the Imja Valley. The air grows noticeably thinner, making a steady walking pace increasingly important.
By afternoon, you'll arrive in Dingboche, a picturesque village surrounded by fields protected by stone walls and framed by spectacular mountain views. This peaceful settlement serves as an important acclimatization stop before continuing toward Everest Base Camp.
Day 8Acclimatization day at Dingboche:
Dingboche+
Acclimatization day at Dingboche:
Today will be our second acclimatization day, giving your body time to adjust before heading into the higher alpine region. After breakfast, you'll hike to Nagarjun Hill (around 5,100m) or towards Chhukung Valley, depending on weather and your guide's recommendation. The gradual climb rewards you with breathtaking views of Ama Dablam, Makalu, Lhotse, Island Peak, and the surrounding Himalayan landscape.
Return to Dingboche in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day relaxing at your tea house. This extra day significantly reduces the risk of altitude sickness while allowing you to enjoy the stunning mountain scenery without rushing.
As the elevation increases, staying well-hydrated, eating properly, and walking at a comfortable pace become even more important for the days ahead
Day 9Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche, Elevation: 4,910m (16,210 ft), Distance: 11 km (6.8 miles), Duration: 5 to 6 hours
lobuche+
Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche, Elevation: 4,910m (16,210 ft), Distance: 11 km (6.8 miles), Duration: 5 to 6 hours
Leaving Dingboche, the trail gradually ascends across open alpine terrain with impressive views of Taboche, Cholatse, and Lobuche Peak. After reaching Thukla (Dhukla), you'll stop for a short break before tackling a steep climb to the Thukla Memorial, where rows of stone memorials honor Sherpas and climbers who lost their lives on Everest and other Himalayan expeditions. It is one of the most moving landmarks on the entire trek.
Beyond the memorial, the trail follows the edge of the Khumbu Glacier across rocky moraine, revealing a dramatic high-altitude landscape unlike anywhere else on the journey. Although the distance is relatively short, the thinner air makes today's walk more demanding.
By late afternoon, you'll reach the small settlement of Lobuche, surrounded by towering peaks and glaciers, where you'll rest before your long-awaited visit to Everest Base Camp.
Day 10Trek to Gorakshep – EBC (5364m/17594ft) - Gorakshep 5140m/16859ft, 8 hrs:
Everest Base Camp+
Trek to Gorakshep – EBC (5364m/17594ft) - Gorakshep 5140m/16859ft, 8 hrs:
Early morning walk to cover the few hours alongside the Khumbu glacier up to Gorakshep, after breakfast, we continue hike to Everest Base Camp. The trails over here can be misleading, follow the lead Sherpa, every year the trail changes due to the momentum of the glacier, the walk is quite strenuous due to the high altitude and less oxygen. The walk passes through over rocky dunes and moraine and streams, till you reach the Base Camp. Crossing open unexpected sand flat we start to climb on a good well-trodden path. It’s pretty breathless walking, but we adopt a deliberately slow, steady rhythm taking plenty of short breaks to watch the view gradually unfold as we go up. The final slopes become rocky as we approach the top (5555m), decked in colored prayer flags.
A stunning 360 degree panorama awaits us. The dramatic free-standing form of Pumori directly in front of us, Changtse in Tibet, and across the wide space of the Khumbu glacier, the vast black pyramid of Everest itself, down as far as the South Col which joins it to Lhotse. This is the ideal time to be here, early enough to be most sure of clear views, but late enough to allow the sun to swing southward and light the peaks directly - too early and all you see is a silhouette! The dramatic end of the Nuptse ridge dominates the foreground, and so many lesser peaks spread away southward. We look down on base camp on the edge of the glacier. It is obvious why so many people go to this effort to stand here.
It is a base camp for the climbers to set up their camps & acclimatize before heading for Summit of Mt Everest. If we get here at the time of climbing season we can explore with lively expedition groups. Taking as long as we want at the top, we descend to Gorakshep. Our Guide will organize a prayer and offer Lungta (Prayer flag) for good health and happiness for all the members. O/N Camping in Classic Base Camp (AP)
Note: Offer Lungta or prayers flag (printed prayers for the peace and good health/happiness) together with our Guide. Offering prayer flag in high passes and sacred sites is believed to bring good fortune and long life in Buddhist culture.
If weather is clear, we should take our chance and go up to Kalapathar for excellent 360 degree closed up view of Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse. Sunset on Everest from here is pure magic, gold to pink catching the tips of the peaks, subtly fading with the light - worth every effort. It turns very cold after losing the sun - wrap up in everything you brought, down jacket and all. Don't forget your head-torch for the descent. O/N at Lodge in Gorakshep (EP)

Staying high above the valley floor, we pass the yak pasture at Dusa to a chorten at the head of the Imja valley. Dingboche is the only place in Khumbu where barley is grown, enjoy the scenery.
