Manaslu Circuit Trek
The 18-day Manaslu Circuit Trek follows the Budhi Gandaki through remote Gurung and Tibetan-influenced villages before crossing Larkya La into the Annapurna region. From Soti Khola, the route passes Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Samagaon, and Samdo, then descends through Bimthang, Tilije, and Tal. Quiet trails, monasteries, glaciers, forests, and close views of Mount Manaslu make this one of Nepal’s finest high-altitude circuits.
This region is a part of restricted area requiring special permit. This trek passes through spectacular mountain scenery and is culturally diverse. Government has recently permitted to build lodges. We begin in the lower Budi Gandaki valley, an area inhabited by Gurung farmers, and follow a precipitous trail that dips up and down crossing and re-crossing the Budi Gandaki River. As we gain altitude and cross the main Himalayan range we enter a region of strong Tibetan influence where rice terraces give way to fields of barley and buckwheat.
The summits of Manaslu and Himalchuli are never far away. Mani walls mark the start of the climb to the Larkya La, a spectacular pass marked by prayer flags that offers outstanding views of the surrounding peaks. Our descent is via the Marsyangdi Valley where we join the Annapurna Circuit trail to Besisahar.
Manaslu Circuit Trek Overview
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a strenuous 18-day journey around the world’s eighth-highest mountain. From Soti Khola, the trail follows the Budhi Gandaki through Machha Khola, Jagat, Deng, and Namrung before entering the higher Nubri Valley.
Beyond Namrung, Tibetan Buddhist culture becomes increasingly visible through monasteries, mani walls, chortens, and traditional villages. Lho and Shyala offer impressive views before the trail reaches Samagaon beneath Mount Manaslu.
Acclimatization days at Samagaon and Samdo prepare trekkers for Dharamsala and the demanding Larkya La crossing. From the pass, the route descends through Bimthang, Tilije, Dharapani, Tal, and Syange.
March to May and September to November generally provide the best trekking conditions. The route requires a Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, Manaslu Conservation Area Permit, Annapurna Conservation Area Permit, current TIMS documentation, and a licensed trekking guide.
Experience the Manaslu Circuit Trek with Basanta Adventure
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a strenuous high-altitude journey combining remote mountain trails, Tibetan-influenced villages, Buddhist culture, dramatic Himalayan scenery, and the challenging crossing of Larkya La.
Basanta Adventure has been organizing Himalayan journeys since 1998. Our decades of experience across Nepal’s trekking regions provide strong knowledge of high-altitude routes, permits, guides, porters, road transport, accommodation, and changing mountain conditions.
Manaslu requires more coordination than a standard trekking route because of restricted-area regulations, remote access, limited high-altitude accommodation, and weather-dependent pass conditions. Our operations team manages these details throughout the journey.
Basanta Adventure is ISO 9001:2015 certified and follows responsible trekking practices. We support local lodges and trekking staff, encourage careful waste management, and promote respectful behavior in monasteries and traditional communities.
Our experience also extends to Tibet and other high-altitude Himalayan destinations. This background in Tibetan Buddhist culture, altitude management, and remote logistics is especially relevant in upper Manaslu.
